I hit a bit of a wall today and was feeling homesick. I definitely miss the people at home,
but I also miss all of the little things too. Like my biggest predator being a spider and not a cockroach
or lizard, or never worrying about the power or water being turned off, or the Internet
not working for some unknown reason, or just some good food.
I’m sure my homesickness was induced by the three
cockroaches we had to deal with when we woke up, or the fact that our water was
turned off, or the fact that our Internet stopped working. More on the water situation. Doreen told us that our water was
turned off by the water company.
No one was really sure why, as the bill was supposedly paid earlier in
the week. But I guess it didn’t
really matter why, either way we would not have water back until Monday
afternoon as the company was closed on Sunday. We ended up buying 2 jerrycans of water and used those to do
our dishes and to shower in.
Showering was interesting and just a little fun (only because I knew it
was a one time thing). We poured
water into a basin and then splashed it on our bodies to clean ourselves. A negative being that the water was
super cold!
We also decided that since we weren’t going to play soccer
today (we didn’t want to be too sweaty and gross without having a proper
shower), we would get a little exercise and walk to town. We also thought the perfect medicine
for our homesickness that we were suffering from could be treated with a nice
cold soda. While in town we also
had a CD made with all of the Ugandan hits that we have been hearing on the
radio.
The remainder of the day I just Skyped with my Mom, Nick,
and Grams, and then planned my lessons and made some posters for the week.
